Our Legacy
Our Legacy of Goodness began with Mr. Issac Britt, in 19th Century Baton Rouge, L.A. He started smoking meats over an open pit, fired by pure hickory. He found with slow smoking meats this way, the results would be tender, juicy and full of flavor. To compliment this mouthwatering meat, he created a magnificent, culinary recipe for tangy barbecue sauce.
In the late 1950’s Pete Powdrell, grandson of Mr. Issac Britt, and his wife Catherine Powdrell moved to New Mexico. Pete continued to improve his grandfathers cooking technique and original sauce, while his wife worked on desserts such as her famous sweet potato pie and peach cobbler. In the late 1960’s Pete and Catherine officially introduced Britt’s smoking style and sauce to New Mexico as Mr. Powdrell’s BBQ.
Although our beloved Pete and Catherine have since passed on the Legacy of Goodness continues with the next generation. We have been featured in many different publications such as newspapers, magazines and television. Our award winning, savory barbecue is served at 2 Locations in Albuquerque New Mexico. Our unique sauce has evolved and is loved all around the world. Our authenticity, originality and consistency have made us who we are today, Mr. Powdrell’s Barbecue – the best barbecue in town.
